Orcs Must Die! 2 – Sequel Announced

Robot Entertainment have announced today that a sequel to Orcs Must Die! is in development. The new game will feature a brand new campaign, a new upgrade system and the hugely anticipated co-op mode.

Orcs Must Die! 2 Features:

New Campaign – Orcs Must Die! 2 features a full campaign that you can play in single-player or with a friend in co-op. Choose to play the campaign as the War Mage, a headstrong hero who charges into danger, or play as the more nuanced Sorceress, a new hero who keeps enemies at bay with mind-control and magic.

More Enemies – An army of vile new creatures is set to pour through the rifts, and they’ve brought all of your favorite trap-fodder from the original Orcs Must Die! along with them!

More Defenses – Orcs Must Die! 2 has an enormous armory of new and classic defenses, including an all new assortment of magical trinkets. Use your new spellbook to buy defenses and upgrades the way you choose to, building up your arsenal based on how you play the game.

New Upgrade System – The skull system has been completely redesigned. You will always earn skulls for replaying levels, and the skulls can be spent on multiple persistent upgrades for each of your defenses.
Players wishing to add to the current 3.4 billion dead orc count can download the original Orcs Must Die! on Steam and other PC Platforms. As a special bonus, players who own the original Orcs Must Die! on PC will unlock exclusive content in the sequel.

Lost Adventures, New Orcs Must Die! DLC Pack 2

Robot Entertainment has announced today that the second DLC pack available for Orcs Must Die! to set to be released on Steam for a special price of $2.99 on Tuesday, November 8th, 2011. The DLC pack is entitled “Lost Adventures” and will feature five new fortresses to defend, two new enemies to fight and leaderboards for each of the new levels.

    - Reverse Tower
    - Triple Down
    Two New Enemies to kill
    - Frost Bat

Orcs Must Die! Artifacts of Power DLC Pack 1

Good news, everyone! For those of you who are waiting for new content via DLC, you’re in luck because today Robot Entertainment has announced that the first of two planned DLC content packs for Orcs Must Die! is set to be released on Tuesday, October 25th, 2011. The new DLC is entitled “The Artifacts of Power” and will be available on steam for the affordable price of $2.49.

The Artifacts of Power DLC will allow players to expand upon their arsenal by adding two new weapons and two traps. Once the DLC has been downloaded, it will appear in your spellbook and will be usable in any level of the game.

New features include:

  • Vampiric Gauntlets – Armed with these grim gauntlets, you can drain the enemy’s health while healing you at the same time. If you have a desperate need to use spells, you can also use the gauntlets to drain your health in exchange for mana.
  • Alchemist’s Satchel – Toss a series of deadly acid bombs that explode on your command to melt flesh from the bones of multiple groups of orcs at once.
  • The Shock Zapper – Mount the Shock Zapper on the ceiling and zap fliers and ground units equally dead with this oversized pest remover.
  • Floor Scorcher – By the time they see the fire, it will be too late. Burn entire groups of complacent enemies with this pop-up flaming surprise.
  • New Trap Upgrades – You’ve got two new reasons to go back and earn those 5-skull ratings on War Mage and Nightmare levels. With the Artifacts of Power Pack, you can now spend skulls on new upgrades for Shock Zapper and Floor Scorcher

No word yet on whether or not co-op will be added to the game via one of the DLC packs, sorry!

Orcs Must Die! Orc Slayer Costume Unlocked!

The special “Orc Slayer” character costume for Orcs Must Die! has now been unlocked for everyone, which means the community has reached a massive 250 million total orc kills already! You can access the costume by clicking on the “Manage Downloadable Content” icon on the main menu screen under your total career kills, just tick the costume and your character will be wearing it in game.

Orcs Must Die! Patch Notes – Oct 11

Robot Entertainment have released a patch to coincide with the launch of Orcs Must Die! on the PC. Below is the full list of changes:

  • Added minimum processor check warning dialog on startup. The game will still run, but we’ll let you know on install if you might be encountering problems because of your machine being below spec.
  • Added keyboard locale override from user.cfg – read below for user.cfg details
  • Added full-screen window mode support in user.cfg – read below for user.cfg details
  • Fixed a bug for posting to leaderboards
  • Fixed a bug for posting to total orc count
  • Fixed a bug on the button not going to the nightmare leaderboards
  • Fixed a startup issue on machines with multiple video cards. This should help many people with the “Failed to Initialize” issues.
  • Orcs Must Die! Released on PC

    The PC version of Orcs Must Die has now been released! If you still want to get your hands on the special bonus “Knight of the Order” costume, you’re in luck because Steam are still offering it until 8am Pacific Time on October 12th. The game is currently a 4.3 GB download, but you won’t have to download all that if you had the demo version installed already. Also it features 27 Steam Achievements.

    And with Orcs Must Die! finally being released there will be a lot more content added to the site in the coming days. So stay tuned!

    Note: Some people have been having problems launching the game on Steam. If you can’t launch the game then try verifying the game data, you can do this by right clicking on the game in the Steam library, click on properties, go to the “Local Files” tab and then click “Verify Integrity of Game Cache”. This should find 7 missing files and replace them, then the game will launch.

    Orcs Must Die! Demo

    In case you’re still not sure if you want to buy Orcs Must Die! There is a free demo of the game available on Steam and XBLA. It features the first three levels of the game: The Hallway, The Fork and  The Corner. You will be able to play each level on two different difficulties and unlock and upgrade up to seven weapons to use while playing them.

    Your scores will also feature on the leaderboards as well (not sure if it’s the same as the full game leaderboards). The demo is a good way to get a feel of the game and learn the basics of how to play it.
